From Stage to Screen: Broadway musicals have a long, successful history of being adapted into blockbuster films; and sometimes the reverse. We will span the last 80 years with iconic, award-winning shows The Sound of Music and West Side Story from the 1950s to popular hits of today with Hamilton and Wicked. From the decades in between enjoy A Chorus Line, Chicago, Les Misérables, Phantom of the Opera, and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Santa Baby!: Our annual “Sounds of the Season” holiday concert is a wonderful way to start your holiday celebrations. This year we are honoring the person that makes it all possible…Santa! Enjoy timeless classics including Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, I’ll Be Home for Christmas, and It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. Movies that celebrate the festivities include Polar Express and Miracle on 34th Street. A perennial favorite at this concert is the kiddie conductors and you won’t want to miss the narration of Twas the Night Before Christmas by local voice actor Jason Dempsey.

Out of this World: Liftoff and come explore the final frontier with music inspired by the universe. We begin with Strauss’s Also Sprach Zarathustra which became the opening credits for 2001: A Space Odyssey. Then travel through the cosmos with new music by Julie Giroux - Blue Marble and Mason Bates - Mothership as well as a stop to our galaxy’s largest planet Jupiter. The themes from Star Trek, E.T., Superman, and Star Wars will complete our interstellar journey.

Let's Dance: Explore dances throughout the world that will delight and have you moving in your seat. From Europe, we hear the folk-dance influenced Hungarian Dances by Brahms and the eerie spectre of Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens. In Copland’s Rodeo we have the sounds of the American West. To round out our program we have Ginastera’s Estancia Dances bursting with Argentinian rhythms, while Danzon No. 2 by Marquez has the infectious sounds of Mexico.

And All that Jazz: We conclude our season collaborating with members of the Hudson Valley Saxophone Orchestra to bring you an afternoon of jazz. Big band standards by Duke Ellington, Cole Porter, Glenn Miller, and Benny Goodman will have you tapping your toes. You’ll hear familiar songs by George Gershwin along with his orchestral masterpiece An American in Paris. And finally a swinging solo with the Artie Shaw Clarinet Concerto performed by Dr. Diego Vásquez, professor of clarinet at Ithaca College.
